The filtered water is then deposited deep into the tank, causing water below the surface to move upward, bringing any suspended debris with it. This movement of water also brings water with higher concentrations of nitrates and ammonia to the skimmer, where they can be targeted and removed.

The Black Hole Skimmer's large filter chamber (2.75 inch diameter x 2.7 inch tall) allows for the use of various types of filter media, including pads, sponges, activated carbon, filter floss, and all-in-one filter solutions, making it highly customizable to address different aquarium contaminants. For instance, if excess ammonia is a concern, zeolite can be introduced into the filter chamber, while fine filter pads or activated carbon can be used for cloudy water.
